Public Works also promotes bicycling through special events held within the City and/or County (such as Bike Month and Ciclovia Salinas), supports educational and enforcement activities to enhance bicycle safety throughout the community, provides recommendations on bicycle project priorities and safety programs, and manages the development of a bicycle network and City policies which will provide safe bicycling opportunities for people of all bicycling abilities.

Safe Routes to Schools
The City of Salinas has been awarded a grant to make improvements throughout multiple neighborhoods that will support safe travel to school. The project transforms roads into multi-modal “complete street” corridors, providing/installing bicycle and pedestrian facilities. Roadway enhancements include the reduction of vehicular travel lanes from 4 lanes to 3 lanes on "road diet" improvements, with the addition of buffered bicycle lanes on specific roads. It also includes the addition of shared-lane markings (sharrows) on Linwood Drive, Maryal Drive, and Chaparral Street. The project provides sidewalks, pedestrian ramps, and crosswalks at key locations along Alvin Drive, Linwood Drive, and Maryal Drive. The project will also include the installation of a traffic signal at Alvin Drive and El Dorado Drive, and at Alvin Drive and Linwood Drive. Next to Bardin Elementary School, the City will install roundabouts at the Bardin Road and West Alisal Street intersection, a road diet on Bardin Road, and pedestrian, transit, and bicycle travel enhancements.
